Ghazni was destroyed during the 10th century, when the rulers of the Ghaznvid Empire razed it to the ground. It was visited by the famous Moroccan traveling scholar, Ibn Battuta, in 1333, who described that much of the city was already in ruins, even though it appears to have once been a great city. Ghazni was again destroyed during the First Anglo-Afghan War in the 19th century. The present city was rebuilt by NATO forces, mainly the United States.

Visiting Ghazni

There are highways connecting Ghazni with Kabul and Kandahar. The city is about two hours by road from Kabul.
