Khulna is the third largest city in Bangladesh. It has a population of close to 900,000 people as of 2007. The city is located about 330 km to the southwest of Dhaka, by the banks of the Rupsha and Dhairab rivers. Khulna is also served by the port of Mongla, about 38 km from the city.
Khulna is located to the north of the Sundarban, one of the largest mangrove forests in the world. The city depends on trade that flows through on the Rupsha and Bhairob rivers.

Going to Khulna
Most people go to Khulna by bus from Dhaka. There are also regular steamers to Khulna from Dhaka but the journey is very long, taking some 26 to 30 hours, with a few stops along the way.
Getting around Khulna
The main form of public transport that you can take are the cycle-rickshaws. You can find them at the bus stand. A short journey should as about Tk 4 or more, while a trip across town should not cost more than Tk10.
