Jean Commaille's Tomb is located at one corner of the road that encircle the Bayon. Jean Commaille is the director of the École française d'Extrême-Orient, the French institution involved in the conservation of Angkor, during the turn of the 20th century. He was the first among a string of conservators who worked on restoring the ruins of Angkor, and was followed by other men such as Henri Manchal, Maurice Glaize and Bernard-Philippe Groslier.

Commaille employed workmen to clear the undergrowth choking Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. Unfortunately he never did see much of the restoration of Angkor, because in 1916, he was murdered by robbers to grab the week's wages of the workmen.

A tomb was built in his memory. The tomb stands today at a clearing on the southwest corner of the road that encircles the Bayon.
