The India Pavilion at Expo 2010The India Pavilion at Expo 2010 features a gigantic central dome reminiscent of an ancient Buddhist dagoba. It is said to symbolize the theme of "Unity in Diversity" of India. The focus of India Pavilion is the relationship and unity between the rural and urban areas through the exchange of goods and services. The highlight of the pavilion is the "Tree of Life". This is a carving inspired by the Siddi Syed Mosque of Ahmedabad. ![]() India Pavilion, Expo 2010 Shanghai China Author: lucia wang (Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 Generic) Though at first appearing rather primitive, the India Pavilion is infused with modern technologies. It is an energy efficient zero-chemical area, where power is generated by solar panels, wind mills and even herbs and bamboo. The terracotta and stone floor of the pavilion is inspired by the Palace of Rampur in Varanasi. |
