About Longhua Cemetery of Martyrs

Longhua Cemetery of Martyrs honors those who died for the communist cause, before the establishment of the People's Republic. There is a memorial hall at the centre of the cemetery while commemorative sculptures are found throughout the park.

Longhua Cemetery is located on the execution ground of the Nationalist Party. It was here that several hundred Communists were put to death on the orders of Chiang Kai-shek.

Near the cemetery is the Longhua Temple, with an octagonal pagoda. The temple dates back to AD 687, while the pagoda is even older, going back to AS 238-251. However the foundation of the present pagoda goes back to AD 977 while the temple was last rebuilt during the late Qing Dynasty.

The surrounding area of Longhua Cemetery is very pretty in spring, when the peach trees are in bloom. Many worshippers throng the temple.

How to reach the Longhua Cemetery of Martyrs
