About Miaoyang Temple

Miaoyang Temple is a temple in Xicheng, Beijing. It dates back to 1271, when Beijing was under the rule of the Mongol Yuan Dynasty. The site has been used for temples since the Liao Dynasty. However the present structures date to the Ming Dynasty, which was also when it got its present name, meaning "Divine Retribution".

Miaoyang Temple is famous for its white Tibetan-styled dagoba (or stupa). The dagoba is 51 meters (167 feet) tall. It was designed by a Nepalese architect. Among the other sights at the temple includes the conventional drum and bell towers, the Hall of the Heavenly Kings, and the main hall.

Worth visiting at Miaoyang Temple is the hall with a collection of small Buddhist figurines. There is also another hall with statues of the 18 luohan, or Immortals who have broken through the cycles of rebirth.

How to reach Miaoyang Temple

Take the subway to Fucheng Men station.
