About Nanjing Road
Nanjing Road is the main shopping road in Shanghai, China. The road comprises two sections: Nanjing East Road starts at the Bund and ends near People's Park. From there it is known as Nanjing West Road.
Nanjing Road has a total length of 10 km (6 miles). The most popular shopping precinct in Shanghai is on Nanjing East Road. This is where you can see huge department stores, boutiques, specialty shops, cafes, theaters, and crowds of shoppers.
Perhaps the most famous department store in Shanghai is the Shanghai No. 1 Department Store, formerly known as the Sun Department Store. It is ten storeys tall, and is Shanghai's answer to Bloomingdale's and Harrods.
Nanjing West Road was formerly known as the Bubbling Well Road. The name refers to a well in the Jing'an Temple. It is a more upscale part of Shanghai and is less crowded than the East Road. Among the major developments here include Pacific Hotel, Shanghai Center, Portman Ritz-Carlton, and the Shanghai Exhibition Center.
How to reach Nanjing Road
Take Line 2 of Shanghai's subway to the Nanjing East Road subway station or the Nanjing West Road subway station.
