About Shanghai Art Museum

The Shanghai Art Museum is a museum housed in the former clubhouse of the Shanghai Racing Club. It is located next to People's Square, which was also built on the former Shanghai Racecourse. The museum has a clocktower with a four-faced clock.

The Shanghai Art Museum building was built in 1933 for the clubhouse. In 1937, it was taken over by the Japanese and used as a military office. When the communist government took it over, they built underground tunnels, some of which are located under the building.

In addition to the art museum, the building also houses Kathleen's 5, a famous upmarket restaurant.

How to reach the Shanghai Art Museum

Take Line 1 of the Shanghai Metro to the People's Square subway station. Walk through People's Square in the direction of Huangpi North Road, and you will pass by the Shanghai Art Museum on your right.
