About Shanghai Museum

Shanghai Museum is a museum at People's Square, in the Huangpu district of Shanghai, China. The museum has a collection of over 120,000 items including excellent bronze ware, ceramics, calligraphy, painting, jade, furniture, coins and seals.

The Shanghi Museum was founded in 1952. It was housed in the former building of the Shanghai Racecourse clubhouse, at 325 Nanjing Road, which today houses the Shanghai Art Museum. In 1959 it moved to the former Zhonghui Building at 16 Henan South Road.

The present Shanghai Museum was completed in 1996. It has five floors covering 39,200 square meters. The museum is designed to follow the shape of an ancient bronze cooking vessel.

The Shanghai Museum is open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Last entry at 4:00 pm.

How to reach the Shanghai Museum

Take Line 1 of the Shanghai Metro to the People's Square subway station.
