About Song Qingling's Former Residence

The Song Qingling's former residence is an elegant villa at 1843 Huaihai Central Road. Madam Song Qingling is the wife of Dr Sun Yat-sen.

Song Qingling, also written Sung Ching-ling, is one of the Song siblings - three sisters and one brother - who married influential personalities of China. Apart from Song Qingling, her sister Meiling married Chiang Kai-shek, the head of the Nationalist Republic of China while another sister Ailing married H.H. Kung, director of the Bank of China. Their brother T.V. Song was Chiang Kai-shek's first Finance Minister.

Song Qingling became an honorary Communist heroine and stayed on in China after the Communist takeover. At first she lived in the house she shared with Sun Yat-sen in the French Concession, and then moving to this villa. She passed away in Beijing in 1981. Her home in Beijing is also turned into a private museum.

The former residence of Song Qingling has been retained as a private museum showcasing her personal belongings, including her limousines still parked in the garage.

How to reach Song Qingling's former residence

Song Qingling's former residence is located at 1843 Huaihai Zhong Lu. Take Line 1 of the Shanghai Metro to Hengshan Road subway station. Walk south along Hengshan Road until intersection with Gao'an Road. Turn right and walk north along Gao'an Road until intersection with Huaihai Central Road (Zhong Lu). Turn left and walk southwest along Huaihai Central Road until you reach the destination, on the left side of the road.
