The Spain Pavilion at Expo 2010The Spain Pavilion at Expo 2010 looks like a broken basket. In fact it is designed to resemble a hand-woven wicker basket. Behind it is a steel framework that provides support. The choice of wicker as the theme of the Spanish pavilion came about to celebrate the tradition of wicker weaving that is prevalent in both Spain and China. The pavilion comprises 8,000 wicker panels that were handmade by craftsmen in Shandong Province, and each is unique in design. ![]() Spain Pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai China Author: Suzuki (Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 Generic) ![]() Spain Pavilion at night Author: Suzuki (Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 Generic) Inside the Spain Pavilion, visitors travel through time and space to follow the development of the cities in Spain. The theme, "From the City of Our Parents to the City of Our Children" is unfolded through three displays produced by famous Spanish film makers. Visitors to the Spain Pavilion will be delighted by the array of Spanish delicacies, and treated to Spanish cultural performances. There will be flamenco dances and Spanish music staged twice every evening, at 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm at the pavilion's amphitheatre. |
