The St Joseph's Church of Beijing is a church located along the famous Wangfujing Street. It is also known as the East Cathedral. Located at 74 Wangfujing Street, it is one of the most important churches in Beijing.

St Joseph's Church was built in 1655 over the site of the resident of the Jesuit missionary Adam Schall von Bell (1591-1669). The original church is long gone, as is many subsequent rebuildings, the result of earthquakes, fires and the Boxer Rebellion.

The St Joseph's Church that we see today is the result of a US$2 million makeover carried out recently. It stands before an open courtyard with an arched entranceway.

How to reach the St Joseph's Church

Take the subway to the Wangfujing subway station.
