About Wenshu Yuan

Wenshu Yuan is a temple in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. It is located at a small alley in the city.

Wenshu Yuan Temple is dedicated to Wenshu, the Taoist god of wisdom, usually depicted riding a blue lion. Wenshu Yuan was founded in 700 AD. However the present temple buildings date from the Ming dynasty. The austere buildings of the temples are filled with statuary while in the courtyards are bronze incense burners.

Wenshu Yuan is a very busy temple. Pilgrims and devotees make it a hive of activity. There is the sound of chanting all the time. After a visit to the temple, visitors usually retreat to the teahouse or vegetarian restaurant within the premises.
