Assam is a state in northeastern India. The state covers the Brahmaputra and Barak river valleys on the southern part of the East Himalayas. The state covers 78,550 sq km (30,328 sq mi). It is bordered by the states of Arunachal Pradesh to the north, Nagaland to the east, Manipur to the southeast, Mizoram to the south, Meghalaya to th southwest and West Bengal to the west. It also borders Bhutan to the north and parts of Bangladesh to the west and southwest.

Assam has a population of 27 million (2011 estimate) and is the 14th most populous state in India. Its biggest city is Guwahati while its state capital is Dispur.
How to go to Assam
Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati is the main gateway to Assam. It is served by Air India and Indian Airlines, along with other smaller airlines, with regular services from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore.
