The city of Bangalore lies at the heart of the Mysore Plataeu, at an average elevation of 920 meters (3,018 feet). The city is mostly flat with no major rivers running through it. The city experiences a tropical savanna climate with lowest temperatures in January and the highest in April.

Bangalore was founded around AD 890 and was originally known as Bengaluru, meaning "hero stone". There has been a proposal to return the city to this name, although the name change has not been implemented as yet.
Bangalore's entry into the IT industry came in the mid 1980's when Texas Instruments set up its base there. Other IT companies soon followed, turning Bangalore into the Silicon Valley of India by the end of the 20th century.
Budget Travel to Bangalore
Bengaluru International Airport (BLR) is located 44 km to the north of downtown Bangalore. Opened in May 2008, it is the most modern airport in India. There are buses operated by the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTA) between airport and the city.
Another option is to take the shared taxi. It costs around Rs. 300 from airport to the central business district.
