Staying in Dak Bungalows when in India
Dak Bungalows are inns, usually run by the state government, that offer basic accommodation to travelers. They are usually conveniently located, though not necessarily available for foreign travelers. If you wish to stay in one, you should get in touch with the local or district authority of the town or city you are visiting.
As dak bungalows are usually provided as the lodging of visiting officials, who get priority over travelers, you should always book in advance. Having said that, there is also a likelihood that a visiting VIP might bump you out of your reservation, so that's the drawback of opting for this form of budget accommodation.
