In India, you will come across a good number of palaces, forts and havelis that have been converted into heritage hotels. This is particularly true in Rajastan, but there are also several in Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and a few other states in northern India.

The opulent homes of Maharajahs are now turned into plush hotels, to be enjoyed by business moguls and their families. You can expect a certain old-world charm in staying at these palaces, and be treated like royalty.
