The Sarnath Archaeological Museum is a well-planned museum that houses some of the greatest treasures in Indian Buddhist art. Among the displays is a number of unearthed statues, some in surprisingly good condition, as well as several other findings from the site. At the museum's entrance is the famous Lion Capital from Ashoka's pillar, which was adopted as the national emblem of India, an indication of the Indian Government's renewed interest in Buddhism. The wheel design on its base was also the central figure of India's flag.

I visited the Sarnath Archaeological Museum with a small group of AsiaExplorers members when we were Varanasi, and we made a day-trip here.
