About Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram is the capital of Kerala in South India. The city was also known in English as Trivandrum until 1991, when the government reinstated the original name. It is on the west coast of India, close to the southernmost part of the country. With a population of close to 745,000 people, Thiruvananthapuram is the largest city in Kerala.

The name Thiruvananthapuram means "Abode of the Lord Ananta" in Malayalam, in reference to the Hindu deity whose temple is in the centre of the city.

Thiruvananthapuram experiences a climate that is between a tropical savanna climate and a tropical monsoon climate. Temperature is fairly constant throughout the year, with the average low of around 23°C and the average high of around 31°C. Having said that, the period from October to February are cooler, and are the best period to visit. If you wish to see the Onam festival, then the time to go is around end of August and early September. There are two wet seasons in a year, one in May and another in October. The months of January and February are the driest.
