About Tiruchirappalli

Tiruchirappali is the fourth biggest city in Tamil Nadu. Often called Trichy, it is known as being the cleanest city in India. Tiruchirappalli is located 320 kilometers south of Chennai and 400 kilometers north of Kanyakumari, at the geographical centre of Tamil Nadu.

Tiruchirappalli is believed to have been named after Trishira, a three-headed demon from Hindu mythology. It is today a prominent industrial and educational hub for Tamil Nadu. Along with Madurai, it is one of the oldest inhabited cities in the state. The town of Uraiyur, which is now a suburb of present-day Tiruchirappalli, was a capital of an early Cholas kingdom from the 3rd century BC to the 3rd century AD. Not far from Uraiyur is the oldest man-made dam. Tiruchirappalli experiences a hot tropical climate. The middle part of the year is very hot, with average high temperatures of 41°C. The coolest time are from mid October to early January, when temperature can drop to 18°C.
