India is the biggest country in the Indian subcontinent. The north and northeastern part of the country borders on the Himalayan range. On the north central part of India is the fertile Indo-Gangetic Plain, which is one of the oldest continuously habitated region on earth. Through this region flows the holy rivers of Ganges and Yamuna. Bordering on Pakistan to the west is the Thar Desert. The southern part of India is a peninsula composed of the Deccan plateau, flanked on either sides by the Western and Eastern Ghats.
