Gunung Sibayak continues to release fumes and gases.
Gunung Sibayak is one of two major volcanoes within the vicinity of Berastagi, in the Karo Highlands of North Sumatra. The other major volcano here is Gunung Sinabung. Gunung Sibayit is 2094 meters above sea level, and is possible to climb to the peak, a 7km journey that takes about three hours. Another two hours takes you to the hot springs of Semangat Gunung, which is open from 8am to 11pm.
I have not climbed Gunung Sibayak - I hate climbing mountains, to be honest - and photographed it from a distance. Those thinking of climbing Gunung Sibayak are advised to wear good hiking boots and warm clothing, and the temperature is prone to drop suddenly. Food and drinks are also a necessity. Naturally it is not advisable to climb alone.
