Panoramic view of Gunung Sinabung and the surrounding region.
Gunung Sinabung, at 2450m, is one of the two volcanoes in the vicinity of the town of Berastagi, in the Karo Highlands of North Sumatra. It is regarded as a very challenging volcano to climb, requiring a reasonable amount of fitness and stamina, as it takes 10 hours for a return trip with a local guide.
Nevertheless, you can enjoy very good views of Gunung Sinabung without the tedious effort of climbing it, as it is visible from Berastagi, and especially from Gundaling Hill, which is where I photographed it.
