A new growth on a moss-covered trunk at Sibolangit.
Sibolangit is a nature conservation centre and botanical gardens, about 40 km south of Medan, on the way to Lake Toba. I paid it a visit together with a small group of AsiaExplorers members when we were on our way to Lake Toba.
At Sibolangit, we find many big jungle trees with their branches laden with epiphytes. The grounds are also covered with shrubs and plants that need less light. On fallen branches are lichens, moss and a variety of mushrooms. The air is damp and humid, and despite it being on a slightly elevated terrain, the jungle at Sibolangit is very humid - causing me to perspire perfusely. And, not to forget, there was a lot of mosquitoes!
