Mount Zion is a hill on the southwest part of Jerusalem. It is located just outside the old city walls. Traditionally, Mount Zion referred to the area around the Temple Mount. However, for reasons unknown, this particular hill has acquired the name Mount Zion since the first century. Among the places of interest located at Mount Zion include the Hagia Maria Sion Abbey, King David's Tomb and the Room of the Last Supper. Also located here is the Catholic cemetery where Oskar Schlinder of Schlinder's List fame was buried. Schlinder, although a Gentile, gained fame for helping to save over 1200 Jews during the Holocaust.

The road that winds up Mount Zion was named Pope's Way in honor of the visit of Pope Paul VI in 1964. Mount Zion became a no-man's land from 1948 to 1967 due to the conflict between Israel and Jordan.
