Aomori is a prefecture in the Tohoku region, in Honshu, Japan. It is the northernmost prefecture in Tohoku. Aomori covers an area of 9,606 sq km. It is bordered by Iwate Prefecture to the southeast and Akita Prefecture to the southwest. To the north is the Tsugaru Strait separating it from Hokkaido.
Aomori Prefecture has a population of 1.5 million people. Its capital is also known as Aomori, a city with a population of 302,000.

How to go to Aomori
By Plane
There are regular scheduled flights linking Aomori Airport with Haneda Airport in Tokyo, Centrair Airport in Nagoya, Itami and Kansai Airports in Osaka, New Chitose Airport in Sapporo and Fukuoka Airport.
By Train
Aomori City is the northern terminus of the Shinkansen bullet train. From Tokyo, you can take the Hayate train service to the Shin-Aomori Station. The journey takes about 3 hours 40 minutes. From there, you take another train to reach the Aomori station in a non-reserved car of any train. The whole fare is ¥16,400. You can use a JR East Rail Pass in lieu of the fare; it costs ¥20,000 for 4 non-consecutive days.
By Bus
Buses from Tokyo Station to Aomori City takes 9½ hours and costs ¥8,50 on normal days and ¥9,000 on Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of public holidays.
