The Chichibu Tama Kai National Park is a remote region in rural Japan that is rich in wildlife. It covers four prefectures namely Saitama, Yamanashi, Nagano and Tokyo. The national park stretches from Okutama in the south to Chichibu City in the north.
Mountain ranges separate Chichibu Tama Kai National Park into two sections with few trails connecting them. Visitors to the national park can take railroads to reach some of the spots, while the rest are accessible by bus and hiking.
Chichibu was a major silk-producing town in Japan. Today it is a pilgrimage site with 33 Kannon temples. Visitors from neighbouring places visit Chichibu for its lively festivals.
To the north of Chichibu Tama Kai National Park at Nagatoro is are rare crystalline rock formations on the Arakawa River. In the Okutama area are hiking trails and an attractive mountain village at Mount Mitake (929 meters). Also of interest is Mount Mito (1528 meters), which comprise three peaks. Another regional attraction are the stalactite caves at Nippara.
