Kawaguchiko Fifth Station
|
| Climbing Season: | 1 July to 27 August |
| Climbing Time: | 3-7 hours going up 2-5 hours coming down |
Kawaguchiko Fifth Station is the base for the climb up Mount Fuji. It is located 2475m (8,250ft) above sea level, and can be reached by tour buses, which deposit visitors in front of a line of souvenir shops and restaurants. An in impeded view of Mount Fuji unfolds in front of you. From here, the Kawaguchiko Trail takes you to the peak of Mount Fuji, passing some 20 mountain huts for people to stopover for a rest. These mountain huts offer accommodation of the most primitive variety - expect no more than a futon and some toilet facilities for ¥5250 without meals, ¥7350 with meals (it's highway robbery without a highway).
