Kyoto Station, Kyoto
Kyoto Station is a temple to futuristic architecture, and a astounding gateway to this age-old city. It was designed by Japanese architect Hara Koji, a professor at Tokyo University, who won an international competition to design the station.

When Kyoto Station was completed in 1997, many criticised it not not having incorporated any traditional Japanese motifs. Nonetheless it stands unabashed as a showpiece of modern design.
The station makes generous use of open spaces, with glass and stainless steel surfaces, and a series of escalators leading to a rooftop garden.
If you're looking for information on Kyoto, you can find the Kyoto Tourist Information booth at the station. The booth operates from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Mondays to Saturdays.
