Myoshin-ji Temple is a sprawling temple complex in Kyoto, Japan. Within its grounds are some 47 subtemples embellished with exquisite art from the Kano School paintings and other art objects.

Myoshin-ji Temple was founded at the behest of retired Emperor Hanazono in 1337. It is of main temple of the Myoshin-ji school of Rinzai Zen Buddhism, which counts more than three thousand temples across Japan, along with nineteen monasteries, making it the largest school in Rinzai Zen Buddhism.

As with the fate that befall the other temples in Kyoto, Myoshin-ji had most of its buildings destroyed in the Onin War in 1467. A good number was subsequently rebuilt. Among the famous subtemples at Myoshin-ji Temple include Keishun-in, Taizo-in, Daishin-in, Reiun-in, and Tenkyu-in.

Keishun-in is famous for its four gardens. Taizo-in is famous for its dry garden by Kano Motonobu (1476-1559). Daishin-in has three gardens. Reiun-in also has many works by Kano Motonobu while Tenkyu-in is famous for the paintings by Kano Sanraku. These are the subtemples normally open to the public.
