Nerima (練馬区) is the westernmost special ward of Tokyo Metropolis. It covers 48.16 sq km (18.6 sq mi) and has a population of 714,000 (2011 estimate). Nerima is bordered by Saitama Prefecture to the north, Nishitokyo to the west, Musashino City to the southwest, Suginami and Nakano to the south, Toshima to the east and Itabashi to the northeast.

Nerima was a farming district until the early part of the 20th century, when severe devastation of central Tokyo precipitated an influx of people to the area. In 1932, the town of Nerima along with the villages of Kami-nerima, Naka-arai, Shakujii and Oizumi were merged to form Nerima ward within the former Tokyo City. Then under Allied occupation, the administrative lines were redrawn with the establishment of Tokyo Metropolis, and Nerima ward became Nerima special ward.
Nerima continues to play a significant role as a farming area, with most of its produce supplying to the rest of Tokyo Metropolis. The area is famous for the Nerima daikon radish, usually grown for pickling.

How to go to Nerima
There are three subway lines to Nerima. The Yurakucho Line and Fukutoshin Line of Tokyo Metro serve the Kotake Mukaihara (Y-06; F-06), Hikawadai (Y-05; F-05), Heiwadai (Y-04; F-04) and Chikatetsu Akatsuka (Y-03; F-03) Subway Stations while the Oedo Line of the Toei network serves the Shin-Egota (E-34), Nerima (E-35), Toshimaen (E-36), Nerima-Kasugacho (E-37) and Hikarigaoka (E-38) Subway Stations.To reach Nerima by road, take the Kan-etsu Expressway, Tokyo Gaikan Expressway and National Highway Routes 17 and 254.
