Tenryu-ji Temple, Arashiyama, Kyoto
Tenryu-ji Temple is a Zen Buddhist temple in Arashiyama district of Kyoto, Japan. It was founded in 1339 by the first Ashikaga shogun, Takauji, to venerate Gautama Buddha. Its first chief piest was Muso Soseki. Being a temple related to the family of the Ashikaga shoguns as well as Emperor Go-Daigo, it is ranked highest among Kyoto's Five Mountains temples. It is also one of the temples registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Kyoto.

Tenryu-ji Temple is noted for its serenity. It has survived practically unchanged since the beginning. The temple features a Japanese garden with a pond in the shape of the Chinese character "kokoro", which means "enlightened heart".
