Wat Tham Phu Si is a small cave temple about half way up Mount Phousi in Luang Prabang. It is accessible via a flight of steps from Phousi Road.
I visited Wat Tham Phu Si when I explored Luang Prabang with a few members of AsiaExplorers. From Wat Tham Phu Si, we continued climbing the stairs until we arrived at Wat Chom Si at the summit of Mount Phousi.
Wat Tham Phu Si is built among the rocks, in places where the rocks form a natural cave, or more precisely, grottoes. Within the grottoes is Wat Tham Phu Si's primary Buddha image, which has a wide girth. It was in the style called Pha Kachai. There is nothing of particular significance at Wat Tham Phu Si, so I did not stay there for long. Moreover, I arrived on Mount Phousi when it was evening, and I had to rush up the hill to catch the spectacular sunset.
If you're going to Luang Prabang, you'd be glad to know that the town is quite small. You can go to most places on foot if you want to. Otherwise, you can also catch a tuk tuk to take you around. As for accommodation, they range from very simple, basic beds to boutique hotels. You can visit the Luang Prabang Hotels guide for a list of budget accommodation.
