The bus is the most convenient as well as cheapest form of transportation in Macau. As a visitor, you can explore most of the places on the island by using the bus. On this page, we get to know the Macau Bus System and look at the Bus Routes. By learning some of these routes, you can explore Macau at a very low price. That's what my wife and I did when we came here. We walk half the way, and then take the bus back. It certainly saves us lot of time and energy.

The two main bus companies in Macau are:
  • Transmac (tel: 28271122, email: transmac@transmac.com.mo)
  • TMC (tel: 28850060, 28787809, email: tcm@macau.ctm.net)
Bus fares are fixed, and are set at MOP$2.20, $2.50, $3.30, $4.00 and $5.00. From our experience, most of the fare is MOP$2.50 if you are travelling around Macau peninsula, MOP$3.30 if you cross to Taipa and MOP$5 if you go to Coloane Village. Do prepare correct amount as there's no conductor to give you change.

If you are going to be travelling around Macau a lot, then you might want to consider getting the Transmac Electronic Card or the TCM Monthly Pass.

Transmac Electronic Card

This is a stored value card with a MOP$50 refundable deposit and a minimum MOP$30 cash value. Apart from not having to carry lots of coins, the card lets you change buses within 45 minutes of boarding the first bus, and not having to pay again. A card reader is installed on board the Transmac buses.

TCM Monthly Pass

The TCM Monthly Pass, priced at MOP$210, allows you unlimited rides on TCM buses for the effective period of the pass. The pass validity starts from the 28th of each month. To buy the pass, you need to submit your photo to the pass office. Your pass will then bear your photo. To use it, just present to the driver when you board the bus. For inquiry of where to buy the pass, call 28850060.

Macau Bus Routes

On this table, we've put together all the bus routes in Macau, complete with maps. If you are going somewhere in Macau, the easiest way to find out which bus to take is to do a "Find" by clicking Ctrl+F. Then type in the name of the destination, and with luck, you scroll down to the bus route serving it. We would encourage you to enlarge the map to view it in full. To do that click on the green button that says "If you can't see the map, click here"
