Cotai is the name of the reclaimed land that sits between the islands of Coloane and Taipa in Macau, effectively merging the two islands into one. The name Cotai is a portmanteau of Coloane and Taipa. Cotai is presently seeing heavy development in the entertainment and gambling section. The first casion to open there is Galaxy Entertainment's Grand Waldo Hotel, in May 2006. More hotels are underway. The biggest is the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel, which officially opened on 28 August, 2007.
