The Friendship Bridge, or Ponte de Amizade, is the name of a 4-lane two-way bridge that connects the Macau Peninsula with the island of Taipa. With a length of 4.7km, the Ponte de Amizade is the longest of the three bridges connecting Macau Peninsula with Taipa. To allow ships to cross, two crests were built on the bridge, with the highest point being 30 metres above the sea.
The entrances to the bridge from the peninsula side are at Avenida de Amizade, near the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal, and at Avenida da Ponte da Amizade, in Areia Preta. On the Taipa side, the entrances to the bridge are at Estrade de Pac On and at Estrada Almirante Magalhães Correia, connecting to the centre of Taipa.
Construction of the Ponte de Amizade Bridge began in June 1990, and it was open to traffic in March 1994.
