Edifíçio da Capitania dos PortosThe Moorish Barracks, or Edifíçio da Capitania dos Portos, is a neoclassical building along Rua Direita in Macau. It was constructed in 1874 on a slope at Barra Hill, as sees a fusion of neoclassical building with Mughal architectural style. (The term Moorish Barracks is therefore misleading, it should more appropriately have be called Mughal Barracks!) The building is intended to house an Indian regiment from Goa employed to strengthen the Macau police force. The Moorish Barracks stands on a raised granite platform above the street. The rear portion has two storeys while the rest of the building is only one storey. The building has wide verandas running along its sides. The Moorish Barracks is painted light yellow, while the details are in white. The Moorish Barracks is one of the buildings within the Historic Centre of Macao that is inscribed by Unesco as a World Heritage Site.
