Macau is located south of the Tropic of Cancer, and enjoys a tropical monsoon climate. The ocean as well as mainland China have an influence on the climate of Macau.
The coldest months in Macau are January and February. In the winter months, temperature may drop below 10°C, for a total of 30 days in the year. Nevertheless it rarely falls below 3°C.
Spring in Macau is between March and April. The southeast winds brings warmth and increased humidity which may result in the occasional fog and rain. Day time temperature is pleasant. For the evening, it is useful to have a jacket in hand.
The highest temperature in Macau can be expected between the months of May to September. The temperature may exceed 30°C for a total of 100 days in a year, mostly during these months. This is also when humidity is at its highest, between 70% to 90%. There are heavy rains and thunderstorms and the occasional watersprouts during this time of the year. In addition, between the months of July and September, Macau can also be hit by typhoons. During this period, t-shirts are sufficient for the warm weather, and umbrellas or raincoats may be useful.
Summer comes to an end in late September as the southwest monsoon is replaced by winds coming from the continent. This is the best time to visit Macau, when the temperature is at its best. Remember to bring along a sweater or jacket for the evenings. In November, the temperature continues to drop with the approach of winter.
