1Borneo Hypermall is the largest hypermall in Sabah. It touts itself as the first and largest hypermall in East Malaysia. Located on 23.3 acres of prime land along Jalan Sulaman Highway, 1Borneo Hypermall is adjacent to Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and other state and federal administrative centres as well as neighbouring townships and housing estates.
The largest component of 1Borneo Hypermall is the shopping podium which has a gross area of 5.2 million sq ft. Within this area are 4 hotels, condominiums and various departments including Auto City, Oceanarium & Discovery Centre, Handicraft & Cultural Centre, Spa & Fitness Centre, Amusement Centre, Bowling Centre, Cineplex, and Gourmet Lane. The whole project has a cost exceeding RM1.2billion.
There are over 300 units of retail outlets at 1Borneo. Fashion outlets include Rolex, Cortina, Mont Blanc, Habib, Roxy, Quiksilver, Esprit, CK Jeans, Nine West, Yen By Arthur, Edmundser, Celia Loe, and Urban & Co. One of the tenants will be Parkson. The restaurants at 1Borneo include Dome, Starbucks, New York New York, Hong Kong Recipe, Bintang Lagenda as well as McDonald, KFC, Pizza Hut, and Yogurberry.
The 4 hotels at 1Borneo are Novotel (16 storeys, 263 rooms), Grand Borneo Hotel (16 storeys, 338 rooms), Courtyard Hotel (9 storeys, 160 rooms), and Tune Hotels.com (4 storeys, 168 rooms). Together, the hotels provide a total of 929 hotel rooms to 1Borneo. In addition there are also four towers of condominiums. Towers A and B (25 storeys, 399 units each), Tower C (28 storeys, 119 units) and Tower D (over 12 storeys, 91 units) provide a total of 1008 units of condominium.
Autocity Showroom showcases the latest in exotic sports cars and luxury convertibles to all types of vehicles. The Oceanarium & Discovery Centre at 1Borneo is the largest in East Malaysia. It has a volume of 750,000 million litres and over 500 species of marine life.
The Handicraft and Cultural Centre showcases Sabah’s rich cultural heritage. This includes the variety of indigenous arts, crafts, apparels, tools, musical instruments, and other accessories of the various tribes.
1Borneo has 3500 parking bays, 32 escalators, 4 travellators, 23 passenger lifts, 10 goods life and a car lift. There are also 6 special lifts that are disabled friendly.
Getting there
1Borneo Hypermall is located about 7 km north of Kota Kinabalu city centre. It is to the west of Universiti Malaysia Sabah. You can catch the bus opposite Kota Kinabalu Courthouse. The bus goes through the Likas coastal highway. The fare is RM1.00.
