About Agung
Agung is a set of two wide-rimmed, vertically-suspended gong. It originated among the tribes in the Philippines such as the Maguindanao, Maranao and Tausug, but has been adopted by the people of Borneo integrating it into an agung orchestra or agung ensemble.
Agungs are usually big, heavy and made of brass. They may weigh as little as 5 pounds to as much as 30 pounds each. Their diameter is usually about 22 - 24 inches. Agungs are usually struck while standing, either using the hand, the knee or a mallet.
