Anglo-Chinese School is the oldest English-language school in Ipoh. It was founded by a missionary from the American Methodist Episcopal Mission, Reverend W. E. Horley, in 1895. Reverend Horley was an Englishman in an American mission.

The Edwardian-style school building of Anglo-Chinese School was built in 1912. It was enlarged in 1938 while keeping to the same style. Lord Baden-Powell, founder of the Scout movement, visited the school in 1934.

As with many other schools, the Anglo-Chinese School had its classes suspended due to World War II. Classes only resumed 44 months after the start of the Japanese Occupation.

Today Anglo-Chinese School is one of the biggest schools in the Kinta Valley with over two thousand students.
