About Ba'kelalan

Ba'kelalan is a cluster of nine villages up the in Bario Highlands in Sarawak. It is located over 3000 feet above sea level, and is a mere 4 km from the border with Kalimantan, Indonesia. The villages that make up Ba'kelalan are Buduk Nur, Long Langai, Long Lemumut, Long Titan, Long Rusu, Pa Tawing, Buduk Bui, Buduk Aru and Long Rangat.

The name Ba'kelalan comes from the Lun Bawang language - Ba means wetlands while Kelalan refer to the Kelalan River. Ba'kelalan is a place popular for growing apples and organic vegetables. Apples were introduced here in 1975. Since then, it has made Ba'kelalan the only place in Malaysia where apples are successfully grown on a commercial scale. Apart from oranges, Ba'kelalan also produces mandarin oranges and vanilla. The people are mostly Christians from the Sidang Injil Borneo denomination.
