About Branyo

Branyo is a dance performed by the Portuguese Eurasians in Malacca. The costume of the dancers reflect a fusion of the east and the west. While the male dancers wear Portugal-inspired traditional costumes, the female dancers wear Malay-inspired costume reminiscent to baju kebaya.

Branyo is danced accompanied by music played on the rebana and violin. The catchy rhythm of the dance is akin to that of the Malay joget, which is also said to have been derived from Portugese-inspired danceform, most likely Branyo itself.
