The Chinatown of Kuala Terengganu, also called Kampung Cina, is located near the bank of the Terengganu River. It comprises a single street, Jalan Kampung Cina, with shophouses on both sides owned mainly by the Chinese community of the city.

The Chinese are among the earliest ethnic groups to have settled in Kuala Terengganu. Admiral Zheng He is said to have arrived here with his fleet in the 15th century. The present Chinese community of Kuala Terengganu, however, traces its ancestry back to seafarers from Fujian Province who arrived here on their sailing junks. The Chinese have been recorded to have settled here as early as the 18th century.
The Chinese of Kuala Terengganu have two main places of worship: the Ho Ann Kiong Temple and the Tien Hou Kong Temple.
The heritage value of the buildings in Chinatown has attracted the attention of the World Monuments Fund after the buildings here were threatened with demolition. It resulted in Chinatown being listed inh the World Monuments Watch list of 1998, to ensure that they are preserved.
There is now an on-going effort to restore the buildings. However, at the same time, the surrounding areas are being rapidly developed. So how much change this will put to the character of Chinatown remains to be seen.
