About CongkakCongkak is a traditional board game common in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and Thailand. It is within the family of mancala games, which are games of sow, count and capture. The name congkak is believed to be derived from the old Malay word "congak", which means to count. The game is said to have been around during the Malacca Sultanate period, and spread throughout Southeast Asia. It is usually played by womenfolk, two players at a time.Congkak is played on a board that is shaped like a boat, with two rows of seven holes along the body, and one bigger hole at each end. The bigger hole is the "store". Each player's store is the big hole to his left. In Java, the congkak board has a dragon head at one end while the body is carved to resemble the dragon's scales. 98 seeds are used to play the game. These seeds are sowed into the holes. How to play CongkakThe two players start by simultaneously moving the seeds into the holes. Then, one player chooses one of the seven holes on his side. He removes all the seeds in that hole, and distributes them, one into each hole, in clockwise fashion, including adding one seed into his own store, but not to his opponent's. If the last seed falls into a hole occupied with seeds, the player gets to remove all the seeds from that hole, and continues the sowing process. His turn ends when his last seed falls into an empty hole. If the last seed falls into his store, the player gets to continue by selecting any of the seven holes within his control. If the last seed falls into an empty hole on his own side, he gets to capture all the seeds in the hole on his opponent's side. The objective of the game is to capture more seeds than the opponent.
