About Gunung Mulu Trail
Gunung Mulu Trail is a trek in the Gunung Mulu National Park from the park headquarters all the way to the summit of the 2377 meter Gunung Mulu. This is a trek that can be completed in 4 days. You will be away from civilisation, so bring along enough food to last you the journey, and be prepared to do your own cooking. You will need to pack some cooking utensils as well as a sleeping bag, and it gets pretty chilly at night. Do not be surprised if it rain in torrents throughout the trip, and you are reduced to wallowing through knee-deep mud. Good walking shoes is not an option.
This trail takes you through Camps 1, 3 and 4 on your way to the top, in the company of a trekking guide (who charges RM1000 per group). The first day, you walk about 3-4 hours to reach Camp 1 where you overnight beside a beautiful river. On Day 2, the challenge begins, when you are expected to complete 4-5 hours of rather tough climbing to reach Camp 4. Oh, and another note. It's also bad news if it doesn't rain - because then there is no water at Camp 4. So be prepared to bring some for your own use, or else you will be high, dry and thirsty. On Day 3 you can leave your pack at Camp 4 to make your climb to the peak of Gunung Mulu. Then you either overnight at Camp 3 and return to park headquarters of Day 4, or blaze your way down the mountain to get back to park headquarters on Day 3 - an option that is going to be rather unkind to your knees.
