The Ipoh Railway Station is a lovely colonial-style structure built in 1917 (although some brochures put its date of completion as 1800's and 1935!). I took the above photograph at dusk, as the sky was quickly darkening. I was with a group of AsiaExplorers members on a trip to explore the Mossy Forest in Cameron Highlands, and we stopped over in Ipoh on the way back to Penang.
The Ipoh Railway Station continues the theme of adopting what local writers incorrectly call the Moorish architecture (in fact, it is Mughal style architecture of India) that also dons the old Kuala Lumpur Railway Station.
The Ipoh Railway Station is often affectionately known as the Taj Mahal of Ipoh. It is indeed one of the more impressive landmarks in Ipoh. Today the Ipoh Railway Station houses the Majestic Hotel - previously known as the Station Hotel Ipoh. A beautifully landscaped floral garden surrounds this charming building.

The upstairs of the railway station is now occupied by a hotel.
