As a state by the coast of the Straits of Malacca, Kedah has a number of islands off its shore. Historically, this includes Penang Island, which was yielded to the British through Captain Francis Light in 1786, and is today administered as a separate state from Kedah.
The biggest and most important island in Kedah is Pulau Langkawi, which along with the islands around it forms the Langkawi Archipelago. The following is a list of Kedah islands.
