Jalan Ampang is one of the main roads in Kuala Lumpur. It is also one of the oldest and longest roads in the city, having been around since the earliest days that Kuala Lumpur was established. Jalan Ampang was the route taken by the early miners to open up the tin mines in Ampang.

Within the vicinity of the start of Jalan Ampang are Lebuh Ampang, within the Old Town of Kuala Lumpur and Lorong Ampang.
Jalan Ampang follows the course of the Klang River. Today, Jalan Ampang starts at the junction with Jalan Gereja and Jalan Tun HS Lee, in Kuala Lumpur's Little India. From there, it makes a curve to follow the Klang River westward.
Starting at Jalan Gereja, Jalan Ampang forms junctions with the following roads as it moves west: Lebuh Ampang (left), Lorong Ampang (on the right), Jalan Melaka (left), Jalan Munshi Abdullah (on the left), Jalan Dang Wangi (left), Kuala Lumpur-Ampang Elevated Highway (left, exit), Jalan Sultan Ismail (intersection), Jalan Yap Kwan Seng (left)/Jalan P Ramlee (right) Intersection, Lorong Mayang (left), Jalan Mayang (left), Persiaram Hampshire (left), Jalan Binjai (right), Jalan Tun Razak (intersection), Jalan Sejahtera (left), Lorong Ampang 2 (right), Lorong Damai 13 (left), Lorong Nibong (right), Jalan Ampang Hilir (right), Jalan Damai (left)/Anderson Drive (right) Intersection, Jalan Ampang Tengah (right), Jalan Jelatek (left), Jalan Ritchie (right), Lorong Palas (left), Jalan Berembang (left), Lorong Ru (right), Jalan Ampang Kiri (left), Jalan Ampang Ulu (left), Middle Ring Road II (interchange), Jalan Mamanda 1 (intersection), Kuala Lumpur-Ampang Elevated Highway (left, entrance), Jalan Mamanda Kecil 1, Jalan Dagang Besar (right), Jalan Merbau (left), Jalan Besar Ampang (right), Jalan Wawasan 4/2, Jalan Wawawan Ampang (right), Jalan Desa Ampang (right), Jalan Mutiara (right), Jalan Intan (right), Jalan Taman Putra (right) and continue into Jalan Bukit Belachan.
