Jan Sahib's Office, Ipoh
Jan Sahib's Office is one in a row of shophouses along Jalan Sultan Yusuff (formerly Belfield Street). This particular row, numbered 128 to 136, has particularly attractive façades, with elaborate pediments.
Jan S.A. Sahib is one of the illustrious personalities of Ipoh of the early 20th century. An Indian Muslim who hailed from Chennai, India, he acted as a trustee of the Ipoh Indian Muslim Mosque. Jan Sahib also served on the Kinta Sanitary Board and was appointed a J.P. in 1935.
The beautiful row on Jalan Sultan Yusuff has unfortunately seen better times when I photographed it. It appears that the intricate pediment has gone unappreciated.
